Synopsis:
Lola Nolan is a budding costume designer, and for her, the more outrageous, sparkly, and fun the outfit, the better. And everything is pretty perfect in her life (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood. When Cricket, a gifted inventor, steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
My Feeling of this book~
So first of all, this is really a fun read.Lola is so adorable and genuine, and relatable. But sometimes I just cannot endure her since she missed so many opportunities to decide whom she wanted to be with.Like most of the adorable female protagonist, Lola is so conserved about pay off the price to love, she knew that Max,her so-called boyfriend ,was too indifferent to care and listen to her feelings ,she felt so insecure and uncertain about her future with him. And surprisingly,When she gradually forgot her first crush on the boy next door,Cricket,he showed up with an tremendous eager to explain his prior reckless and careless behavior. In comparison to Cricket's genuine heart,Max's communication and interaction in their daily lives with Lola was insufferable .The relationship built between them was weak because Max never really put an eye his girlfriend.I also felt he and Lola's relationship was suffocating and couldn't bear this abnormal romance between them.
Review on Goodreads
This is a really cute and enjoyable read!
Lola was such a genuine and interesting person. She was not perfect ,but she always tried to overcome her flaws with a resolution. I admired Lola for being vulnerable and brave. Because of this, I felt so connected to her as a character.
And...Sweet Cricket! In comparison to Lola's older and more reckless boyfriend,Max,he is so adorable and thoughtful, and more mentally mature. He didn't regard Lola as a property or just a sort of person that you would spend time with when you face problems(Well...Max did.),he respects Lola ,and besides the intimate friendship as her neighbor since they were little, he'd been waiting patiently for Lola's heart opened and accepted him. His affection to Lola only grew stronger ,never less.
I really loved the relationship between the two protagonists. They were not impeccable ,but they both kept trying to discovering the truth and facing it together. It's really touching and impressive.
Overall. 4.5 stars for Lola and Cricket, the cutest couple on the earth!

Scarlett heard a cry ,then all she could see was a cluster of people pulling at the woman ,made of thrashing arms and kicking legs. Someone on the street had snuffed out all the nearby lanterns, concealing whatever Scarlett had witnessed in curtain made of night.
P.141
Lines of gleaming sand stretched out into a palace shaped like a colossal birdcage.covered in curved bridges ,horsehole-shaped arches ,and rounded domes, all dusted with god-like flecks,of fallen sunshine.

Julian stopped walking and slowly turned to face her. His steady eyes was even softer than his voice,.It reached out to the broken parts of her like a caress. The type of touch that moves through damaged flesh, past fractured bones and into a person's wounded soul.

But still, he was made of dashing elegance, laced with intrigue and illusion, set off by a twinkle in his dark eyes that made her feel as if she were the charmed one ,covered in magic only he could see.

Scarlett's eyes sought his scar again. Julian had always been handsome to her, but this very real scar down his cheek made him devastating. It reminded her of his bravery and selflessness , and how he'd made her feel more than anyone else she'd ever met.Maybe he wasn't exactly the same boy she had thought he was during the game, but he no longer seemed like a stranger.

(Julian :)"After that (Rosa's death) ,I realized Caraval was no longer the game it once had been, meant to give people a harmless adventure ,and hopefully make them a little wiser.Legend had changed over the years ,and not for the better. He takes on a part of whatever roles he plays, ans he'd been playing the role of a villain for so long, he'd become one in real life. Finally, a few months back, I decided to leave, but Legend convinced me to give him another chance to stay. "
(Julian :)"...But I knew if we grew close, and you found out the truth,it would hurt you.So at first I tried to give you excuses to hate me.But then it became harder to push you away;It pained me every time I lied to you. This game brings out the most selfish parts of many people, but it had the opposite effect on you.Watching you restored my belief that Caraval could be what I believed it used to be-and that my brother could be good once again. My Review from Goodreads
4.5 stars!
This is my very first experience to have a ride in the magic world.
I 'm not an expert or fan to read some magic system books, but this book is really creative and interesting.Through the third narrator's eyes ,Caraval was unveiled layer by layer,Scarlett and Tella's strong sisterhood -bond brought me a warm current .And the slow romance growing between Scarlett and Julian(He is one of my favorite swoon-worthy main male character)is handled so well, the plot showed in the two protagonists' affection is not syrupy or sticky love and I am glad Julian and Scarlett are not too foolish to be head over heels to fall for each other, otherwise this book's enchanting and mesmerizing magic world will be less shone with wonder and beautiful danger.
But what keep me calm and eventually i eliminate the 0.5 star from perfect five stars is because i am a little bit disappointed about Stephanie Garber's one-dimension characters.Being the third person as a narrator,I crave for a larger and generous scope to discover every character's stories and personalities. While I finished this book, I found that I can not figure out What secret or thoughts that wrapped in Tella's foolish and stubborn brain(Don't get me wrong. I still love her~She is on my favorite protagonists' lists, next to Scarlett,of course...).As for Legend...Wow , he really is so complicated and deceptive and magical and mysterious, all mixed in some way,I fall for him and I hate him at the same time.
Overall ,I'm so pleased I've spent my time on reading this book~
